Current Affairs: Healthcare and Aging:
1. Current Affairs/Healthcare/Aging & Elderly: Death Without Dignity: How The New American Healthcare System Still Takes Advantage of the Dying. This stunning exposé goes behind the scenes in America's healthcare system involving the elderly and terminally-ill, revealing the competing monetary interests of doctors, insurance companies and the very healthcare institutions we count on to care for us in our final months of life. Written by a sociologist working in the hospice industry, the author uses true-life examples to show the good, the bad and the poignant sides of something that every one of us will experience. A must-have tool that offers insights and guidance to help make wise and informed decisions about end-of-life care for loved ones.
The author, a sociologist with a Juris Doctorate, is the daughter of an author of dozens of books. This is her first book.
Nonfiction: Medical Narrative:
2. Medical Narrative/Mystery: Angels Unawares: The True Story of a Super Athlete’s Superhuman Feat for the Dying Children of A-T. This is the gripping and poignant account of young victims of a bizarre medical mystery called ataxia-Telangeictasia (“A-T”); it is the true tale of a father's frantic quest to save the lives of his two young sons, who are both dying of this mysterious fatal disease; and it is the story an American hero in a day and age of corporate greed, financial collapse and political corruption. Even when the world isn’t experiencing tumultuous societal division and physical suffering on a grand scale, there are people far worse off than most—in this case children who are advancing rapidly to guaranteed death at a tender age from an incurable disease. This true account of a super marathoner and a corporate CEO to put this lethal disease on the map is a testament to what selflessness can accomplish for children born with a death sentence. Featured by Barbara Walters on ABC's "20/20" and many other TV programs, the most shocking fact about this disease is that the very next child that any of us has could very well be diagnosed with the deadly disease...and we wouldn’t even know it until the child was around two years old.
Author has ghostwritten and edited several dozen books for many published authors, has numerous high-profile endorsements, and has appeared on several national TV shows, including “Larry King Live,” “NBC Today,” CNN News, PBS, BBC, KNBC News, KCET’s “Life and Times,” and others, as well as national radio programs.
This is the author's fourth book. His first book, a critically-lauded nonfiction sociological treatise, is currently being developed as a motion picture by a major American director.
History:
3. Military Strategy and Analysis: Architects of War: How America Wins and Loses Military Battles. Countless authors have written about military strategy, yet, until now, none (including the venerable Richard Overy) has ever offered such a comprehensive examination of how and why the victors won, lost or fought to a draw. Now, for the first time, an analyst with decades of experience working on countless top-secret US-sponsored defense and military programs breaks it down. By analyzing the Five Dimensions of Victory (Starting Wars, Allies, Political Leaders, Smart Armies, and Diplomacy), this seminal study of five modern wars involving the US military (World War II, Korea, Vietnam, and Iraq Wars I and II) compares the competitive dynamics of each of the major combatants involved in these wars.
The author, a former history professor at the Cate School, worked for decades as a strategic analyst and as a program manager in defense systems design and implementation, including nuclear assets and mission-critical weapons systems. He retains top-level US national security clearances and has worked on programs including EOS (Earth Observing System Common Spacecraft), the Space Shuttle, and countless other Department of Defense, NASA, and highly-restricted government programs.
This is the author's first book.
